Top 5 Easter Wine Pairings

Easter is a marvellous celebration of Jesus’ resurrection; a glorious fortnight filled with quality family time and plenty of excuses to tap into the moreish shell of a chocolate egg. But let’s face it, there’s no way we’re going to survive the Easter holidays (featuring one too many chaperoned Easter egg hunts) without a decent supply of wine.

We've shared our ultimate Easter wine pairings; which we’re sure Jesus himself would have approved of (he did turn water into wine, after all)!

 Drinkly’s Top 5 Easter Wines

  1. Vega Del Rayo Rioja Tempranillo - £11.95

This modern, vibrant, tempranillo is from Rioja Alta, made without oak. It's pure and vibrant with juicy red fruits, fresh cherries and plums, plus hints of black pepper and spice. As a soft and easy to drink well-structured wine, with approachable ripe fruit and super light tannins. Pair with roast lamb with rosemary and wild garlic this Easter!

  1. False Bay Sauvignon Blanc - £11

This dry white has flavours reminiscent of Cape gooseberries and a hint of grass. Its zingy finish makes it an excellent partner to sea food dishes, such as the lemon and thyme baked salmon fillets on your Easter dinner table.

  1. Monte Schiavo Verdicchio - £12.25

The grapes are sourced from Monte Schiavo's own vineyards in Maiolati Spontini. Delicate apricot and orchard fruit aromas with a hint of white flower and and citrus. The palate has minerality and texture with ripe stone fruit characters, refreshing lemon citrus acidity, a touch of salinity. Pair with a pea green and spring onion Easter side salad.

  1. Bottega Vinai Gewurtztraminer - £16.75

Intense rose petal and lychee aromas typical of the grape, with hints of ginger, citrus peel and honeysuckle. Ripe exotic fruit on the palate, with plenty of citrus fruit balanced by zesty acidity and floral characters - leading to a long, spicy finish. We like it with an apricot and spice heavy Spring lamb tagine.

  1. Le Fou Pinot Noir - £12.75

Le Fou translates as 'the mad man' as it takes the craziest person to produce such a perfect pinot noir from the South of France. This nicely balanced 100% pinot noir, vegan friendly wine smells of rich, stewed cherries and has an exciting, savoury bitterness provided by ripe, tasty tannins on the palate. It would be a great accompaniment to cold meats, mushroom risotto or more importantly milk chocolate Easter eggs!!
